Houston Bernard is a certified massage therapist and small business owner in Boston, Massachusetts. Houston Bernard owns and operates Mobile Mass Massage, providing on-site massage to clients throughout the area.
Houston Bernard is also a veteran of the United States Army, where one of his certifications was as a Master Fitness Trainer. The Master Fitness Trainer Course (MFTC) trains Non-Commissioned Officers and Commissioned Officers in the Army’s Physical Readiness Training System (PRT), so that they can, in turn, advise their units on physical readiness issues. “It eliminates the guesswork,” said Staff Sgt. Timothy Martinez, 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade. “Old (physical training) didn’t have the same structure ... now it’s a doctrine and it’s scheduled out.”
Mark Smith, the PRT lead instructor at Ford Hood, agreed. “They’ll take this knowledge back to their units and as a (master trainer) they’ll be the link between the commander and the physical fitness field, and the link between the medical field and the command unit.” The MFTC is taught in two phases. The first consists of sixty academic hours, while the second is a two-week course covering all PRT exercises and drills.
Houston Bernard has always been fit; he ran the Boston Marathon in 2010, and lists physical fitness among his many interests.
